><p><span class='av_dropcap2 av-av_dropcap2-bd3e2e98007e8df5c1bbaff1392a902e'>E<\/span>sta copla popular recogida por el<em> Instituto da Lingua Galega<\/em> (ILG) muestra el principal apodo por el que eran conocidos los vecinos de esta comarca de Compostela. La <em>carroucha<\/em>, o <em>carrasco<\/em>, es una peque\u00f1a planta de la familia de las ericas que, hace s\u00f3lo unas d\u00e9cadas, llenaba el monte gallego con sus caracter\u00edsticas flores malvas, antes de que los tojos y eucaliptos dominasen los montes actuales como lo hacen. Era aprovechada como comida para el ganado, o para calentar el horno o quemar en la lareira. Las ovejas y cabras soltadas a pacer en el monte com\u00edan con ganas sus brotes, de forma que las ra\u00edces engordaban hasta convertirse en unos tallos gruesos con los que hacer carb\u00f3n. Las forjas y los herreros apreciaban especialmente este carb\u00f3n para fundir el hierro.<br \/>\nAs\u00ed pues, la recogida de la <em>carroucha<\/em> para su venta era una actividad humilde pero de mucha importancia en la econom\u00eda de los labradores en ciertas zonas de Galicia, entre las que cabe incluir la parroquia de Villestro, a escasos kil\u00f3metros de un pueblo necesitado de combustible para sus hogares y su industria. Podemos imaginarnos a las carroucheiras de Villestro (pues era una actividad mayoritariamente femenina) llegando hasta el mercado en la antigua plaza de la Le\u00f1a (hoy Rodrigo de Padr\u00f3n). Un camino que, todo hay que decirlo, se hac\u00eda a pie con los haces o las cestas a la cabeza, ya sea a trav\u00e9s de Figueiras saliendo a las faldas del Pedroso, ya sea por el camino de abajo por detr\u00e1s de Roxos, o incluso aprovechando parte del trazado del camino de Fisterra, dependiendo de la aldea de origen.
